Cooking for a Cause
You’re invited to share recipes for a brand new Villages cookbook. We’re joining together to create a cookbook full of our favorite foods to raise money for outdoor improvements for our residents’ enjoyment. Think of your family favorites, write them down and bring them in to share in this time capsule of treasures. Please turn in your recipes (click here for the official Recipe Collection Sheet Recipe%20Collection%20Sheet) by Friday, September 3. Cookbooks will be ready for purchase around Thanksgiving and don’t worry, they’ll arrive in plenty of time to give as Christmas gifts. For more information, please contact Kelly Rogstad, Social Events Asst. at (651) 237-3063 or kellyrogstad@ecumen.org. Thank you for your support. Let’s make this the best cookbook ever!
Memory Walk - September 25
The Villages is on the move to end Alzheimer’s disease and we hope you’ll join us! Today, an estimated 5.3 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease and every 70 seconds someone in America develops the disease. In addition, 78 million baby boomers are approaching the age of greatest risk for developing this fatal disease. Now is the time to act to end this epidemic. This year, to support our own residents as well as others in the community affected by Alzheimer’s, The Villages is participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk® to raise awareness and funds to fight this disease. The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research, and the funds we raise will go directly toward supporting their efforts.
If you would like to walk with other Villages family members and staff, we invite you to join Team Villages. The Memory Walk® will take place at Three Rivers Park District-Hyland Lake Park Reserve in Bloomington on Saturday, September 25. It is a leisurely three mile stroll. Meet us at the park at 9:00 a.m. or at The Villages at 8:00 a.m. and ride the bus with us (round-trip - no charge). With your support, I know that we can make a difference. In additional to joining us on the walk, or perhaps instead of, we hope that you will consider making a donation. It’s easy to give: send us a check made payable to the Alzheimer’s Association or donate on line by following this link: www.memorywalk10.kintera.org/twincities/TheVillages. Anyone who walks and donates more than $25 will be given a Team Villages T-shirt. Those who raise more than $100 will also be awarded a special Alzheimer’s Association T-shirt on the day of the walk.
